Farma's Best (1995) — Eight-Time Winner Bred by Henry A. Fitzgibbon
1995–2000
Farma's Best (1995), by Farma Way out of Wig's Best, by Wig Out, was bred in Kentucky by Henry A. Fitzgibbon. A durable and competitive racehorse, he recorded eight victories and $157,011 in earnings through March 2000. His racing accomplishments represent another documented part of Fitzgibbon's Thoroughbred breeding legacy during the Allfitz Farm era.
Farma's Best was a Kentucky-bred Thoroughbred foaled in 1995, by Farma Way out of Wig's Best, by Wig Out. His breeder of record was Henry A. Fitzgibbon, founder of Allfitz Farm, the property now known as Saint Anne's Run.
Farma's Best represents an important aspect of Fitzgibbon's Thoroughbred breeding operation: producing sound, competitive racehorses capable of winning repeatedly throughout their racing careers.
His early racing record included a victory at Turfway Park on February 27, 1998, as a three-year-old. Contemporary records also document his appearance in the Kentucky yearling and two-year-old sales, where he sold for $8,000 at the 1996 Keeneland September Yearling Sale and $32,000 at the 1997 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky April Two-Year-Old Sale.
By August 1999, Farma's Best had developed into a six-time winner. On August 14, he captured an allowance race at Hawthorne Race Course over one mile and one-sixteenth on dirt. At that point, his record stood at 25 starts, six wins, two second-place finishes, six third-place finishes, and $110,931 in earnings.
His success continued into 2000. On March 16, Farma's Best won an allowance race at Turfway Park over one mile on a sloppy track. Trained by Jere R. Smith Jr. for Panic Stable, he recorded his eighth career victory.
Following that race, his documented record stood at 32 starts, eight victories, two seconds, seven thirds, and $157,011 in earnings.
Although Farma's Best did not achieve the international Group 1 success of Mistle Cat or the stakes-winning distinction of Doctoressa, his career demonstrates another measure of success in a commercial breeding program: a horse capable of competing consistently and earning his way through repeated victories.
His accomplishments contribute to a broader understanding of Henry Fitzgibbon's breeding activities. Together, horses such as Mistle Cat, Doctoressa, and Farma's Best illustrate the range of racehorses associated with Fitzgibbon's Thoroughbred breeding career.
Farma's Best is preserved in the Saint Anne's Run historical archive as part of the documented breeding legacy of Henry A. Fitzgibbon and the property's earlier history as Allfitz Farm.
