Doctoressa (1995) — Stakes Winner Bred by Henry A. Fitzgibbon

1995–2000

Doctoressa (1995), by Doc's Leader out of Trois Cloches, by Val de l'Orne, was bred in Kentucky by Henry A. Fitzgibbon. She became a stakes winner with her victory in the $50,000 Politely Stakes at Monmouth Park on May 28, 2000. Her success provides another documented example of the accomplished Thoroughbreds bred by Fitzgibbon during the Allfitz Farm era.

Doctoressa was a Kentucky-bred Thoroughbred mare foaled in 1995, by Doc's Leader out of Trois Cloches, by Val de l'Orne. Her breeder of record was Henry A. Fitzgibbon, founder of Allfitz Farm, the property now known as Saint Anne's Run.

Doctoressa developed into a successful turf competitor and earned her most significant victory on May 28, 2000, in the $50,000 Politely Stakes at Monmouth Park in New Jersey.

The race was contested over one mile on firm turf. Trained by Gary Contessa and ridden by C. C. Lopez, Doctoressa won by half a length over Nordican Inch, with Patty's Positive finishing third.

Her victory was particularly notable because she started at odds of 21.30-1. Following the race, her career record stood at 26 starts, six victories, four second-place finishes, four third-place finishes, and $204,118 in earnings.

Doctoressa had also demonstrated her racing ability earlier in her career, including a victory at Monmouth Park on August 14, 1998.

Her dam, Trois Cloches, was herself stakes-placed, providing a foundation of established racing ability within the female family.

Doctoressa's accomplishments illustrate another dimension of Henry Fitzgibbon's breeding program. While Mistle Cat achieved international recognition as a Group 1 winner, Doctoressa demonstrated the ability to compete successfully in American stakes company.

Her record is preserved as part of the Thoroughbred breeding legacy associated with Henry Fitzgibbon and the history of Allfitz Farm.

Although her breeder attribution is documented, the available records do not independently establish whether Doctoressa was physically foaled or raised on the present Saint Anne's Run property.
